The Apprentice by Tess Gerritsen

This is actually my third book of Tess Gerritsen's but it is the 2nd in the Rizzoli and Isles series (1st being The Surgeon).  Here's the synopsis (courtesy Amazon):

Boston detective Jane Rizzoli hasn't completely recovered from the near-death experience at the hands of a serial killer (The Surgeon) that left her scarred and scared, but that doesn't keep her from going after a copycat murderer whose MO is disturbingly familiar. Warren Hoyt may still be behind bars, but Jane thinks there's a connection between him and the man the police call the Dominator, based on the way this new fiend subdues and violates his victims before he kills them. Political interference from an FBI agent who seems to know more about the Dominator than anyone else only intensifies Jane's determination to solve the case. When Hoyt escapes from prison and teams up with his blood brother to take revenge on the policewoman who put him there, the pace of this truly frightening thriller picks up and drives the narrative to its violent conclusion.

This was another very solid read by Gerritsen and as I read more and more of hers, I like the Rizzoli character more and more.  Isles hasn't become a huge character yet but I would imagine that will change as I read more of the books.  Certainly another series that will "take you away".

Harvest by Tess Gerritsen

Okay so my second read by Tess Gerritsen...good!  A nice solid surgical/psychological thriller.

The synopsis:
Abby DiMatteo is in her second year as a surgical resident at Bayside Hospital in Boston when she is asked to join an elite cardiac transplant team.  She is beyond thrilled.  Everything in her life is on track:  She's fullfilling the life-long dream of becoming a doctor, she's got an amzaing thoracic surgeon sharing her bed and she's making all the right moves in becoming a great doctor.  Unfortunately, all that quickly changes when Abby makes a life-and-death decision to help a young teen receive a heart rather than a wealthy older woman (further down on the transplant list) - against her "teams" orders.  Lawsuits and bizarre accusations follow that threaten her career.  But suddenly, the older, wealthy woman gets a heart, the lawsuits are dropped and Abby is left mystefied.  In taking the investigation in her own hands, she discovers a horrible truth.

A nice, fast-paced mystery that will keep you on your toes and turning the pages to the end.  I really like Tess Gerritsen and look forward to reading more by her!

The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen

New author alert!!!  And a good one at that.

So, I was reading FB and a friend posted that she was going to start a new book by Tess Gerritsen...so I looked her up - to see what she was all about.  Lo and behold, she's a mystery writer and she writes a series using recurring characters (which I love).  AND - they just started a new series on TNT called Rizzoli and Isles based off of said characters (not that I'll watch but it's interesting, no?).  Anyway - while at 1/2 Price the other day, I picked up the first in the series and tore through it in about a day.

Here's the synopsis:
A serial killer is on the loose in Boston. The victims are killed in a particularly nasty way: cut with a scalpel on the stomach, the intestines and uterus removed, and then the throat slashed. The killer obviously has medical knowledge and has been dubbed "the Surgeon" by the media. Detective Thomas Moore and his partner Rizzoli of the Boston Homicide Unit have discovered something that makes this case even more chilling. Years ago in Savannah a serial killer murdered in exactly the same way. He was finally stopped by his last victim, who shot him as he tried to cut her. That last victim is Dr. Catherine Cordell, who now works as a cardiac surgeon at one of Boston's prestigious hospitals. As the murders continue, it becomes obvious that the killer is drawing closer and closer to Dr. Cordell. Is she the only person who can help the police catch this copycat killer. Or is it a copycat?

Sounds intriguing, huh?  And it was!  Great book; great mystery; kept me on my toes until the very end.  I'm on to my next book by Gerritsen (though not of the series).  Pick this author up, you'll really enjoy!
