I am now on to my next book, The Rest of Her Life by Laura Moriarty. This is about the difficult relationship that mothers and daughters can have. In particular this is about Leigh and her daughter Kara whose relationship is strained already because as with many mothers of teenagers, Leigh doesn't understand her daughter. To add fuel to the fire, however, Kara is involved in an accident that ends up killing another teenager within their town. What follows is Leigh's struggle to deal with her daughter's mistake and the effects that Kara's actions have not only on her family's life but those of the victim's.
I'm only a few pages in (I was too busy playing water volleyball yesterday and holding sweet little J.J. to read) but it's a book that grabs you immediately so I expect I'll like it. I'll let you know though.
Update: So I've finished The Rest of Her Life by Laura Moriarty. At first I only liked this book a little but as it went on, I got more and more into it. The problem was, I had a hard time "liking" the main character, Leigh. She was a mother, learning to deal with an accident her daughter had caused which resulted in another's death. Leigh had had a fairly bad childhood with a mother who was no mother that anyone would deserve. As a result, Leigh became a stoic and somewhat cold mother herself while consciously trying not to be the mother who raised her. Anyway, in trying to deal with her daughter and not knowing how to, she realized that she needed to learn how to communicate as a mother should. I realized nearly at the end of the book that the writer purposely wanted the reader to NOT like the main character. This enabled me to appreciate the change she went through and the hard lessons learned. In the end, I enjoyed this book and would certainly recommend it.
