New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

So, I just finished reading New Moon, the second in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. (I tried to get The Art of Racing in the Rain, Aunt K. but everyone was sold out. It must be good, huh? It's on my list though). Anyway, if you'll remember, this is really "young adult fiction" but still appropriate for anyone, I think. The main character, Bella has fallen in love with Edward who just happens to be a vampire. In this novel, they have been "dating" for about 6 months when he realizes that their relationship can't work. Though he still loves her, he breaks up with her, leaves the state and Bella is left floundering, barely alive with a broken heart. Luckily, she finds comfort in a good friend, Jacob. Jake, however, starts suddenly avoiding her and it seems that he's involved himself in a "gang". Bella does what she can to free him but alas, circumstances make it too late for Jacob to free himself from what is really his destiny. The results are (once Edward shows back up) such that Bella is forced to give up her friendship with Jacob in order to follow her own destiny, Edward. It was a perfect set up for the 3rd novel with many loose ends to keep a reader thirsty for more.

Definitely a great book: Entertaining and engrossing. However, the first novel is the better of the two.
