The Knife of Never Letting Go: Chaos Walking: Book 1 by Patrick Ness

My latest novel is one that I read about on another book blog.  The author of that blog raved so much about this book that I added it to my regular book list even though it's considered "young adult".  (I have a separate list for books meant for the younger crowd.)  Please don't let the fact that it is "grade 9 and up" deter you from reading this.  In addition, it's considered "Fantasy/Sci-fi" but in my mind, it's simply a fabulous, unique and ingenious story.

Synopsis:  Todd Hewitt lives in a world in which all women are dead, and the thoughts of men and animals are constantly audible as Noise. The first lines of the book are of Todd and his dog walking through the forest with Manchee (the dog) saying, "Need a poo Todd.  Poo poo Todd."  Hilarious.  Anyway, a month away from his thirteenth birthday (when he is from that point on considered a man), Todd and his dog stumble upon an area of complete silence.  They find that in a town where privacy is impossible, something terrible has been hidden - a secret so awful that Todd and Manchee must flee and run for their lives.  But how do you escape a chasing mob that can hear your every thought?  Where do you go?

Doesn't that sound compelling?  It's just as compelling to read as well!  It does NOT disappoint.  I flew through this book with all of it's twists and turns.  There is so much adventure and chasing that at times I myself felt a bit out of breath.  The bad guys in this book were soooooooo bad and scary - great writing!  I can't wait to read the second book in this trilogy!  Read this!  You will love it!
