So I went to Half-Priced Books yesterday and got about 10 new (used) books. I usually keep a running list of books that I hear/read about in my wallet so that when I do go to a bookstore, I can whip it out without having to roam around trying to find something interesting. I think I was able to get more than 1/2 that was on my list yesterday. One of those books I decided to pick up and start last night in the bathtub (yes I'm still reading Persuasion). It's called The Minotaur by Barbara Vine. For those who don't know, a minotaur is a monster from Greek mythology that has the head of a bull and body of a man. It can be defined also as person/thing that destroys other things. Needless to say it is a mystery/thriller and one of the main characters is a 39-year old schizophrenic male (head of a bull...body of a man...hmmm). I'm only up to chapter 2 but I know already that there is something awful that happens in regard to this guy because of the suspense that already surrounds him. I'm a little scared! I love a good thriller. I hope this one doesn't disappoint. It came highly recommended. I'll let you know.
Update: I finished The Minotaur by Barbara Vine. I really liked it. It had that old British feel to it (as if I've ever been to Britain and know what the hell I'm talking about) where all the characters are a bit too reserved and "polite" to make them seem quite rude. The author did a great job at ensuring the reader only felt drawn to the two main characters and she wrote a mystery that didn't leave one afraid to be alone in the house. Maybe afraid to be alone with some crazy English women but I don't have any around here. Highly recommended. On a side note, I find it interesting that I didn't pick up on what John's (one of the main characters) true "illness" was. In the book, he has been labeled schizophrenic but in truth, it's something else. Read to find out.
