The Mercy of Thin Air by Ronlyn Domingue

I don't know what it is about me and my fascination for either ghost stories or the Holocaust but this has seriously become a freak habit of mine. My most recent read is another ghost story. It takes place in both the 1920s and nearly 80 years later around 2000. Our main character, Raziela "Razi" Nolan is our ghost. In 1929, she died, unexpectedly when she hit her head while diving into a pool and drowned. After death, Razi finds herself stuck in the space "between" life and what comes after. During her time "between" she finds it too difficult to keep track of the man she loved and lost (Andrew) so she occupies herself with "training" new arrivals and helping confused children cross over. Seventy years later, however, she finds that the information she did have on Andrew was wrong (wrong man) and so she sets out on a mission of finding where he ended up. At the same time this is happening, Razi is curious about a couple she's chosen to "haunt". The parallels and connections between all characters end up taking an interesting and compelling turn.

I really enjoyed this book. To tell the truth, I had the mystery solved really quickly but when it was finally revealed, I still gasped and said, "I KNEW IT!!!" The writing was sometimes a bit wordy but the stories were mesmerizing and the characters were all likable. Read this book, I think you will like it as much as I did.

I'm now onto a new author who I'm loving already – Laura Lippman. Mom, is this one you recommended to me?
